Prayer and Praises – June 2021

June Prayer & Praises

God is our steady rock in a raging sea. We can trust in His promises and walk by faith knowing that He will never leave or forsake us. I am thankful that in an ever-changing world, God remains the same. When women come through our clinic doors, they hear about the God who sees them in their crisis. They hear about the hope that is only found in Jesus Christ. Praise God that He has brought women of faith forward to mentor our clients and share the hope that we have in Jesus! We are so grateful!

Please be praying for our clients and our staff team this month as we are bringing on some new members! God sees the work of your faithful prayers.

"For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death." - Romans 8:2

Pray that the Lord would continue to bring vulnerable women to our doors so that we can give them the help & hope they need to choose life for their babies.

“For he will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help. He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death. He will rescue them from oppression and violence, for precious is their blood in his sight.” – Psalm 72:12-14

Pray that our new team members will get empowered by the Lord quickly to move into their new roles.

“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.  Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.  Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.  Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.  Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.” – Romans 12:9-13

Pray that the Lord would unify our Board to lead with passion as we have new members rotating on and off.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30

Meet Karen

Meet Karen

We have been holding on to this gem for a bit now – please give a big welcome to one of our newest Client Advocates, Karen Reynolds.

Karen joined our team early this Spring and jumped right into training and is now ready to see abortion-minded clients. One of the unique gifts that Karen brings to our ministry is that she previously worked as a Survivor Advocate and Case Manager for Transitions Family Violence Services Emergency Housing Program, so she is used to meeting women during some of the most difficult seasons in their lives and ministering to them through it.

In fact, Karen has a long history of ministry work, serving as a Food Bank Administrator and Operator, as well as an Outreach Coordinator for local churches. She holds degrees in Human Services, Business Administration, and Early Childhood Development from Saint Leo University and Thomas Nelson Community College, skills and knowledge that will be put to good use in this ministry.

Karen has been married to her husband for over 27 years, and together they lived the Navy life for 20 years before settling down in Virginia. She is the proud Mom of 3 sons, 1 daughter, and 1 daughter in love, and is a member of Hope Church in Newport News.

We’re so grateful to have Karen on our team and are looking forward to the many ways God will use her in our ministry.

2020 Impact Report

Providing Help & Hope Through a Difficult Year

2020 Impact Report

“Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”

Peter’s response to Jesus is my go-to during ‘dark nights of the soul’, theologians talk about. 2020 delivered plenty of those nights for many of us. Peter’s words have two implications. We have unending hope when our health, our culture, even when our whole world seems to be collapsing around us. It also means there’s a God-sized hole in the heart of man that can’t be filled in any other way. The women we serve are fed a steady stream of lies that abortion will fill that hole. It will not.

Unfortunately, in 2020 those lies got a little louder. New abortion laws and Covid-19 combined to create the potential for an abortion BOOM. For example, a national abortion provider just launched new ads targeting women in our community by offering the abortion pill “discreetly mailed in 2-4 days” without ever leaving home. This was against the law just 12 months ago.

BUT THERE IS HOPE. As part of the Care Net Peninsula family, you helped share words of eternal life with 506 women on the Peninsula last year. Your faithful giving, your prayers, the cookies you dropped off for the staff when we remained open in the early days of the lockdown – those things speak life to me, to our ministry, and to the women and babies we served this year.

You equipped Care Net to invest more than ever to reach vulnerable moms on the Peninsula. We never shut our doors. We added STI testing. We launched a digital learning platform to equip our clients for parenting. We’re doing whatever we can to ensure the Peninsula is a community where, no matter what, moms have the help and hope they need to choose life for their baby.

Thank you so much for being part of the Care Net Family.

Telabortion

Telabortion

Telabortion is a research study that sells abortions without having any in-person care

TELABORTION IS A STUDY
Medical abortions account for 42% of abortions in our country, and they come with issues that are often not discussed. Very recent legal actions have changed the landscape of abortion today – allowing ‘telabortion study’ options. This study attracts the attention of a woman facing a crisis and is packaged as an easy solution. However, it is putting the health and safety of vulnerable young women at risk. Advertisements tout ease and simplicity, BUT ignore the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) warnings regarding the medications used in medical abortions (mifepristone and misoprostol).

UNDERSTANDING THE RISKS
There are very specific guidelines in place for the use of mifepristone and misoprostol. The FDA has classified mifepristone under the Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) program. REMS is meant for drugs known to have serious safety concerns. Also, there are necessary medical tests that should be completed before and after they are prescribed. The FDA website currently states: “Mifeprex may only be dispensed in clinics, medical offices, and hospitals by or under the supervision of a certified healthcare provider”.

Yet these drugs, risky as they may be, are being mailed out – to be taken at home, alone – without a physician to care for the patient.

Here’s the real deal: Telabortion is a research study that sells abortions without having any in-person care. There is a glaring absence of the “one on one” relationship with a medical provider covering all the protocols. Specific recommendations for medical abortion protocol should be based on established published scientific literature. The steps should include screening for eligibility, counseling, education, informed consent, medical history, physical examination, laboratory evaluation, medication, follow-up care, and conclusion of treatment. Don’t take any shortcuts with your reproductive health.

WE CAN DO MORE FOR THE WOMEN IN OUR COMMUNITY

At our clinic Alcove Health, you will get the Real Deal. We are the only free clinic on the Virginia Peninsula that will meet with you one on one and cover all of the options available to you when making a pregnancy decision. We offer confidentiality, accurate medical information, resources, and trustworthy counsel. You’re not part of a “study” here. You get a human relationship with listening ears and options tailored to your needs. Your decision today can have a long-lasting impact.

Delivered Discreetly To Your Home

Delivered Discreetly to Your Home

Abortions Are An Unnecessary Risk

We can all agree there are times when our only option is a risky one. For instance, if I was being chased by someone with a knife, then I’d probably risk knocking on a stranger’s door for help. Or if I was stranded on a deserted island and a stranger offered to help me home, I’d probably risk accepting help from a stranger.

Because these risks would be worth it.

Because the alternatives would be riskier.

But then again, there are times when the risk isn’t worth it when it’s not even necessary.

Mail-to-home abortions fit into this last category.

The FDA requirements for medical abortions (by pill) require that a woman see a provider in-person to receive the medications. This requirement has been removed temporarily during the COVID pandemic.

While the restriction has been removed, the need it met has not been removed. There are good reasons – for our health as women – that a visit to the provider is required by the FDA. You see, good medical care often requires care that can only be provided in person.

Like an ultrasound. It can’t be delivered to your mailbox. For years, an ultrasound was required standard of care prior to receiving an abortion in Virginia. Why? Because it gave a woman the information she needed. Because it protected her health. An ultrasound shows if a pregnancy is ectopic. An ultrasound reveals if there is even a viable pregnancy. We’re smart women – these details are important.

Maybe not to the abortion provider. To the abortion provider these details – an ectopic or nonviable pregnancy – mean their services will not be purchased.

But to a woman’s health, well, this information is vital.

And ultrasounds – here in Hampton Roads – are available. And free. Right at our clinic Alcove Health. No gimmicks. Just safe care because we care about the women in our community.

Risky procedures don’t make sense when we have better options that are free.

There are times I’ll take some risks.

But not with my health. Not when I don’t have to. Not when the safe answer is also the free answer.

Say no to risky procedures; say yes to safe medical care.

The Most Important Question of All

The Most Important Question of All

March 2021 Update from Our Community Relations Manager

Danielle* came to our clinic alone.  Pregnant with her first child, she was confused and conflicted over the wide range of emotions she was feeling.  Her boyfriend had told her he would support whatever decision she might make, but he also let her know he would prefer she abort.  She was disappointed in his reaction.  While the pregnancy was not something she had wanted or planned, she had hoped he might express more concern over the difficulty of her dilemma.

Danielle had grown up in church and she held a deep conviction that abortion was wrong.  As her advocate shared information about abortion, those moral objections began to surface.  Her advocate then helped her visualize what support she might have if she were to carry this child.  Much to her surprise, Danielle was able to think of multiple people in her life who had already expressed a desire to come alongside her.  As the fog began to lift, Danielle was able to reconcile her own personal belief system with the decision that was before her.

Her advocate then shifted the conversation to the most important question of all.  Was Danielle right with God?  She wasn’t sure.  Her advocate asked permission to share the gospel and she consented.  Danielle then prayed to receive Christ.  Her advocate was also able to offer Danielle a spiritual mentor from a local church who could help Danielle grow in her relationship with the Lord. Praise God for his faithfulness and that Danielle chose life for her baby and life eternal with Jesus.

Critical Year-End Ministry Update

Tragically, 15 children in Virginia died from Covid-19. But since March 2020, 300 times that number of babies died from abortion . . . on the Peninsula. That’s over 4,000 preborn lives taken from our community in less than 3 years. But it would have been more.

Prayer and Praises – February 2021

February Prayer & Praises

God is our shield. Meditate on that. He protects us from things that we don’t even see coming, holds himself between threats and dangers, and delivers us as armor does a soldier, from a place of death to a place of life, over and over again.

God is our rock. Don’t just read that. He holds us when the world or our hearts shake and things look upside down, confusing, broken or dark. He is the only solid ground while we learn new things and experience daunting challenges.

God is our sustainer. Soak it in. He does not let our weaknesses and needs keep us from His glorifying mission! He carries each of us through with strong arms and faithful provision for our hearts and bodies. He is more than enough for anything we face.

Praise God for being our shield, our rock, and sustainer! He is being revealed as that to each parent and baby served here, He is continuing this to our staff, and to each of you dear intercessors! What a God we serve.  He has no rival and is not daunted.

"Hear my cry, O God, listen to my prayer; from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint." Psalm 61:1-2

Pray that the Lord would protect, refresh, and unify our Care Net Peninsula and Alcove Health staff who work daily in this life-affirming work.

“And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.” – Colossians 3:14-15

Pray that the Lord would give us wisdom & creativity as we plan for our annual spring fundraising event in the midst of gathering restrictions.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” – James 1:5

Pray that the Lord would bring us the right, new Client Advocate as we expand our mission.

“While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” – Acts 13:2

Mind-Changed

Mind-Changed

January 2021 Update from Our Community Relations Manager

Occasionally after a client comes in for an appointment, we ask if she’d consider filling out a testimony survey. Often these are the “mind-changed” clients. Women who came to see us who were planning on having an abortion, but after talking with an advocate, chose life for their baby.

When Sarah* came in to pick up her Bundle4babies bag a couple of months ago, she turned in her form. She stated:

“I just came in to see how far along I was and confirm I was pregnant. It was the first place I found on google. I planned to get an abortion. I’m glad I didn’t . . . I never expected to be praying with someone. To be honest, it gave me anxiety a little because that’s when I first considered keeping my baby . . . I wouldn’t have the courage to bring my little *Emmy into this world. My situation hasn’t improved a lot but my perspective on it changed.”

Because of your donations, we are able to reach the most vulnerable through our digital advertising and through the prayers said with our advocates. Praise God for moving in the heart of this mom so she would choose to save her child. Even in the darkest of times, His light shines.

Prayer and Praises – January 2021

January Prayer & Praises

January is a month of memory in the pro-life community. It can feel monumentally heavy as we remember how many years abortion has now been legalized in America. However, it is a month dedicated to the Sanctity of Human Life; the sacredness of God’s creation. It points to His holiness and kindness in making something so precious. It encourages hope and praise.

So just as we remember the past with aching hearts for all those who have lost life and lost their children, we also remember Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and our Father, thanking Him for LIFE. We are made free through His OWN sacrifice of life, so let our prayers this month beg for others to be led from death to life while rejoicing in the beauty of EVERY life gained for His Kingdom. Because of faithful prayers and support, there are many chubby little faces here today. Parents have healing hearts and souls saved eternally in our counseling rooms. That is worth remembering!

Let us remember the pain of the past, remember the joy of lives saved for today, and remember the hope of our God making all things new.

"For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death." - Romans 8:2

Pray that churches in our community will raise awareness during Sanctity of Human Life month and will take action to partner with this mission.

“When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” – Matthew 9:36-38

Pray that the Lord would raise up mentors to help women facing an unexpected pregnancy and help them get involved in a local church.

“Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.” – Ephesians 4:15-16

Pray that we will be equipped to reach even more mothers and fathers in 2021.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30

The Provision of Time

The provision of Time

November 2020 Update from Our Community Relations Manager

An abortion-vulnerable client came in a couple of weeks ago. When our nurse, Meg, reached out to her a few days after her initial appointment, she found her really upset. The client had even made an appointment at the abortion clinic the next day. Meg and Sherri (one of our client advocates) talked to her on the phone and worked the schedule out so she could come in THAT night.

She came to the appointment – late but grateful. She talked about the battle in her mind – very spiritual and emotional. She talked specifically about how “cold” the people were on the phone with her at the abortion clinic – “not like here,” (at Alcove Health) she said. She even made comments about how they wanted to make sure she brought the money she would need to start the appt at the abortion clinic. She talked about the difference in our clinic.

All that to say this – our clients often make “back-up plans.” As a staff, we are so grateful for the provision of time that our donors give us to make space and sit down and talk with women. For this woman, this literally allowed us to meet with the woman again before she went to the abortion clinic. She didn’t go to the abortion clinic the next day. She needed a safe place at the right time and we – because of our donors – were able to provide it. Praise the Lord!!
